It was the busiest night of the three-day event, the Algés boardwalk being inundated with festival-goers anxious to hear the headliners.
American rock band Pearl Jam had the honour of playing in prime position at the Optimus Alive Festival, as well as performing to the biggest crowd, bringing the event to a close on Saturday night with an attendance of almost 45,000 people.
Led by singer Eddie Vedder, rock band Pearl Jam made the most of the event to introduce three new songs (‘Just Breathe’, ‘The End’ and ‘The Fixer’) from their latest album of original compositions, ‘Backspacer’.
The rest of the set featured a line-up of the band’s most popular hits, which included ‘Even Flow’, ‘Black’, ‘Daughter’, ‘Once’ and ‘Betterman’.
After two encores the band, which was formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990, performed what is arguably one of their most well-known hits, ‘Alive’, a fitting tribute to the festival that shares the song’s namesake.
Event organisers Everything is New said that some 115,000 people had attended the three days of this year’s Optimus Alive, which will return next year from July 7th – 9th.
