Madeira Island recovers from severe storm.

The island of Madeira was badly hit by a most severe storm on 20/02/2010, causing some damage. Every effort is being made to make sure that life returns to normal as quickly as possible. The Regional Government has roughly 250 lorries and 150 machines working round the clock on cleaning up and other necessary operations. We can report the following information:
- The Airport and the Port of Funchal are both in operation;
- The areas where the hotels are located have not been affected and their services are operating normally;
- Communications are being re-established and both mobile phones and internet connections are already functioning normally, except in the north of the island;
- Many areas already have drinking water and electricity, and the roads to the east are open as far as Ribeira Brava, except for the road leading to the north of the island, between Ribeira Brava and São Vicente.
