Last Thursday, the South
African Embassy held a 100 percent South African event in which
acting-Ambassador Angus September gave a brief presentation about the
highly-anticipated 2010 FIFA World Cup, followed by a wine tasting of
some uniquely-flavoured South African wines and a sample of typical
delicacies such as biltong. This was the first occasion that
South Africa had showcased some of the attractions visitors to the
country can expect during the World Cup which runs from June 11 to July
12.
Mr September, while describing some of the
attractions and the state-of-the art football stadiums, also took the
opportunity to stress that the South African Government has gone to
unprecedented lengths to ensure the tournament is as trouble-free has
possible.
The event was also attended by the
Portuguese Women’s football team, who were participating in the Algarve
Cup, eventually won by the USA.
